Virgin Media data breach

Just received an email from Virgin Media informing me of a data breach.  I think other Virgin Media customers should be made aware of this in case they aren't notified.

It's not a data breach  , it's a "I'm a cretin who shouldn't be working on IT " who left it all insecure.

Be interested to see if it's another case of offshore support teams as cheap .

    Yes, I received the email.

Yesterday I got three phone calls all looked with the UK area and phone numbers two within 10 minutes of each other the third was about 2 hours later.  I did not actually answer them as if I don't recognize a number I don't answer.  Actually decided to unplug the house phone.

It is actually a data breech, hence the reason Virgin have reported it to the ICO. They have admitted the data has been accessed at least once by an unauthorised source.

I've had the email to say that my data was in the compromised database. This may be unrelated but I had a call from a scam Amazon Prime number on Tuesday and the scammer knew my name. I run a scam education website (https://againstscammers.com) and I've never known these scammers to ever know the name of the person they are calling. Just be aware that even though someone can give you basic personal information about yourself, it doesn't mean they are legitimate.
  • I’ve had a scam pension company (profile pensions) asking for me to sign some forms to allow them to access my HMRC records. All of a sudden they have my name and address.

Weird you mention Amazon I within the last two weeks suddenly received phone calls about my service being disconnected.   Now I did not answer but they did leave voice messages which I just ignored

Actually just written an article about this breach in terms of how scammers can use the data. This is based on my own experiences and knowledge of how scammers work
