Insuring an individual on a group booked holiday

My son and a group of friends have booked a holiday. He is not the main contact on the booking and there seems to be some confusion over whether or not they have bought travel insurance.
Does travel insurance have to be arranged to cover the whole group booking or can we get individual insurance to cover just my son? If he has to make a claim as an individual would he have trouble because he is only part of a group holiday booking and not the person that booked the holiday?
Steve

I would recommend getting the confusion issue sorted as first priority.
Ask the organiser/lead passenger to identify the insurance company and get details of the policy. If they can't, then it's reasonable to assume there is none.
    Then proceed accordingly.

As above, identify if insurance exists. It's not difficult (although getting sense out of a group of lads never is easy in my experience... ie myself and my friends!) and is quite important. :)

Thanks guys. I'll try and get them to take it seriously and find out if they have insurance already.

Might be a worthwhile exercise getting them to read the "11 pitfalls of travel insurance" that I posted earlier today hereabouts.
A bunch of young lads on a foreign adventure is a potential drama in the making !!!
I suspect we've all been there at least once......................... :)

I would not think it's very expensive to insure a fit young person, might be best just to do that. He shouldn't have a problem if he has to make a claim, we were on a cruise with sister and hubby, we had to make a claim, nothing to do with sister and hubby though...
