Get the maint guy to take photos of the meter readings and send then to you or get a key to the meter cupboard and take the readings yourself
Yeah he has sent photos through and they have a tag with our unit number so we know they're correct.
Yes, you know that the meter number is the same as that on your bill.
But unless you've conducted the tests that mac.d suggested in Post 3, how do you know that this meter is supplying your place and not someone else's?

All you know is that he took a photo of a meter with a tag on it. That doesn't prove it's connected to your property!  If its serial number matches your bill it only proves that that's the meter you're paying for, it still doesn't guarantee that it's the meter supplying you. You must test the meter as described in earlier replies.

for gas we pay 2.8p per kWh.
Wow, that's expensive !  The latest Gulf tariff is 2.334p per kWh in my region.

Sorry just checked ours and it is 2.33p per kWh.
  • kabaly90,

I'm a ruinously cold old fella who likes it very warm, as in 21°C winter. to help you understand what almost all have have told you I'll give my budgeting calculation.

I work on Calculated Annual Consumption, put my own regular 6 weekly accurate readings into my own online account, and I control my provider and stop them raising my direct debit [they always try but never resist when I say no] my calc is:

    CAC
    ÷12=DD, or
    8500kW
    ÷12=708kW=DD

So I pay for 708kW every month of the year, summer & winter. Never been arrears in a lifetime and never a problem. I do use night store and have a 60%night/30%day split. Hope this
    CAC÷12=DD helps your understanding.

    Thanks for the help.
    Have switched to edf.
    13.5p/kwh day
    9.5p/kwh night
    22.50 standing
Watching our consumption and only using bedroom heater for an hour each day now.
Lesson learnt on all elec flats.
    Cheers

It's still worth monitoring your consumption and make sure that you send meter readings in every month and check your bills.  You'll then know how much you've got to pay and won't get a nasty surprise if your DD isn't covering your consumption because you can do something about it before it gets out of hand.

My advice is to download your bill/statement every month and save a PDF copy
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

A one off spend on an electric blanket will save 365 kWhpa, Make sure YOU

    - buy cost effective
    - submit regular readings to YOUr online account YOUrself
    - get cheapest available tariff for your YOUr needs
    CAC÷12=DD
    Best of luck folks
