Override numbers for overseas calls

Do these not exist anymore? Is there still a cheap way to call Spain from a landline in the UK?

You need to register with them first. Spain is showing as 2.5 p per min, plus I think an about 4 or 5p connection charge.

Finarea SA  are still running their 3 businesses
i.e. 1899 , 18866 and as above 18185

You need to pre-register if you have not already done so, and although it's all the same company, you need to do that for each business you wish to use.

If you are calling a Spanish landline, both 1899 and 18866 are just 2ppm plus connection charge (4p for 1899, 5p for 18866)

But if you are calling a Spanish mobile, then 18185 would be cheapest out of the three @ 8ppm (plus 4p connection charge)

Note that unlike most operators, connection and rates are applied as soon as the connection is made. i.e. as soon as the receiving phone rings, whether or not it is actually answered, or you get the engaged tone

Calls are billed per minute rounded to the nearest penny and prices include VAT

As well as those with 1xxx or 1xxxx Access Codes, with a separate bill after the call, there are other international call-forwarding services accessed by other types of numbers.

Some offer a freephone 0800 number or an inclusive 01, 02 or 03 number and send a separate bill for the international leg of the call.

There are some operating on 03 numbers where there are no additional charges for the international leg of the call. This effectively means free international calls. The list of destinations is limited to landlines in a limited, but quite useful, selection of countries.

There are still a large number of these services operating on premium rate 084, 087 or 09 numbers. In most cases these services are pricey and uneconomic. The only exception is if you have a call plan with inclusive calls to 0845 and/or 0870 numbers (and many of these call-forwarding services also allow calls to a selection of other 084 and 087 numbers with a Service Charge below a particular threshold). If you do not have inclusive calls to 0845 or 0870 numbers, these calls currently can cost up to 33p per minute from landlines (and up to 78p per minute from mobiles).

Finarea SA offer both a freephone and a local rate number to call if your telephony operator does not allow override numbers.

If you need to call an 084... or 087... number, these are from just 10ppm with Finarea SA (plus the small connection fee) whether calling from a landline or a mobile

There may be even cheaper ways to call these numbers.Don't forget saynoto0870.com often gives alternatives

Some inclusive calls packages include international calls.

For example, my nowtv.com connection includes calls to Spanish landlines for 2p per minute with no surcharge.

Sometimes with the 18185 company, it is cheaper to use their 0808 freephone number to access the service.

Eg to call a Spanish landline, It will only cost 1.5p a minute rather than the 2.5p by dialing 18185 (plus the connection charge in both cases).
