Just had an engineer out (from the firm that fitted our WB 28 Si nearly 19 years ago) who said our heat exchanger is knackered. He showed me where it has started leaking in more than one place and the fins are corroded and blocked. Fair enough, it's done us proud over the years.
He said you can't replace the exchanger - can no longer get the part. Is that correct?
I've just done a search and found two places that seem to sell them - for £280 odd quid.
Might be not worth it of course as other parts will be very old now.
Any views on this and best current replacement boiler makes?

You pays your money...….. I replaced the original Potterton boiler in 2003 (~17 years old) - I was then recommended Ideal Icos system - a few years later ,that boiler was being slagged off by plumbers!.
It finally failed in 2013 - replaced with Worcester Greenstar ….now being told when serviced, that they aren't likely to last for 10 years!!

Worcester Bosch are still one of the favoured boilers.

British Gas are notorious for making those sort of claims too in order to sell new boilers!!

That said, as a reasonably trusted gas safe "engineer" (i.e fitter!) explained to me, to offer a professional service he needs to be able to get parts from a regular supplier who will promptly replace them if there is a problem. His regular suppliers know him well enough to send a new part out before they get the old one back. He will fit parts sourced from elsewhere or by the customer (providing they are the correct spec) on a labour only basis but without warranty. So, if the part proves faulty the customer will end up paying two labour charges.
