Breville Halo+ Air Fryer

I was given a Breville air fryer over a year ago by a family member who has now passed away.
The air fryer has now become faulty - the timer no longer works so you need to keep a sharp eye on it - for example, I could set the cooking time as 20 minutes, and it will go on cooking indefinitely till I unplug it. Also the coating inside is coming off, making food stick.
I do not have the receipt as it was a gift. I contacted Breville and explained this. They asked for the code from underneath the fryer, so they could see the date of manufacture and the receipt was not needed. They found the date to be end of August 2018.
Therefore they say all they can do is offer 20% off another purchase, but they no longer make the air fryer. I have asked them to replace it, but they say they do have some leeway after the warranty period, but not this much.I have looked at reviews for the air fryer and found others that say it's a shame it only lasts a year or so as otherwise it is a good product. I have told Breville all this, and expressed my concerns that the item was not fit for purpose, and may even be a fire hazard, but they are not interested and now are ignoring me.
So I definitely would not recommend a Breville air fryer if you'd like it to last more than about 15 months!

So you think that the only use for a timer is if you go out of the room?
You really need to think these things through before making such nonsensical posts.1 -
But surely loads of things do this? We have an older air cooker that has no timer at all. We set a separate timer to know when to go check and have never had a problem. Same goes for nearly all kitchen appliances. Oven, slow cookers, hobs if i'm simmering something etc.
It's not oil so there's no fire risk (well not anymore so than an oven)0 -
Well I certainly would have expected it to last longer than a little over a year.
Lesson learned, I suppose. I will be replacing the air fryer this weekend, and definitely will not be buying another Breville.0 -

If you are in the room whilst it's being used, you simply keep an eye on the food and turn the appliance off when the food is cooked.
How do you think people manage to use ovens, grills etc without timers?
Maybe yours is the nonsensical post.0 -
The OP asked for the appliance to be replaced and JJ_Egan simply pointed out that the manufacturer or retailer don't have to do anything for them.
It's got this to do with it:Zedicus said:
But as it was a warning that the things might fail after 15 months, what on earth has that got to do with it?JJ_Egan said:But as you are not the customer they owe you nothing at all .zaksmum said:I have asked them to replace it, but they say they do have some leeway after the warranty period, but not this much.
