Now he didn't do the clamping.  He says a private firm did.  

Wonder which car park, maybe I need to visit...what a nasty business all round.

Whilst awareness of clamping being illegal is higher than the knowledge that PPCs dont issue fines, its still pretty low

The bulk of th story is ridiculous, and much as i hate to say it the police, and any one else in the front line whilst dealing with the public should have thicker skin.

 The whole incident of the name calling is just clouding over the real issue, someone was clamped, what happened after that arrest

I agree  England has become the worlds worst place to park, and allowed such people to prosper, because English law invariably favours the landowner.  I guess the policeman charged him with that because he couldn't charge him with anything else under English law.
