Economy 7 - move to standard meter before or after switch
Options
I currently have a econ.7 meter that is not needed (central heating installed yonks ago). I've been on standard rate for about 4 years (through my own laziness) and am finally trying to move...herein lies my problem. I have asked my current provider to swap the meter to a standard meter, however they are trying to tie me to a new contract, which I am not prepared to do. New suppliers request the meter type we currently have and are basing all contracts on econ7 - how can I move to a standard meter on a new supplier without tying myself to a new contract with my existing supplier or an irrelevant contract with a new one?

Many suppliers will accept the two readings from an E7 meter and add them together on a non-E7 tariff. There's no need to change the meter. Up until 2019 I've done that for decades; then I found a Yorkshire Energy tariff that had a night time break even point down at 15%. Last August I moved to a house with a very old pointy needle meter, so no E7 for me now!1
