Wales and West GAS - £600 for to move meter 1m

Hello, 
I have had to convert my Garage for additional space in my home. 
My Gas meter was located in the garage and now it is a useable space and Gas meters indoors are frowned upon with potential leaks etc.... I thought it would be best to move it outside. I have fully installed the meter box and exposed the outside pipe so all the engineer needs to do is disconnect meter re- install outside and use about 900mm of additional copper pipe.  
I am happy to pay a reasonable price for this £250 - £300 as it is less than half days work  (speaking with a  local  Plumber)  but as Wales and West are the only people allowed to do this work they have quoted me £600 odd quid.  ( see pics below I have done the majority of the work ) 
How do I get this reduces toa  reasonable Cost

Is this a new regulation or just something you prefer?  The only time I have had an outdoor gas meter was in a flat in the '80s.

You dont get them to change their costs, Its their equipment and its upto them to decide how much it costs.

As a far as gas meters being frowned up on when in doors, this is a lie, there are millions of gas meters in doors. 

If you want the gas meter moving, then get your wallet out and pay the people what they want, stop being a cheapskate.
