    I've been Money Tipped!
Thanks for posting up pictures of all the cakes you've made. The one you made at the cake decorating class is lovely, well they all are. Was there many people at the class? I went to a Christmas cake decorating class years ago and there was about 9 in the class. Whose going to be getting first slice of your cake?

There were 12 of us in the class but the tutor was great and had loads of time for all of us. As for the first slice em... we've already eaten half of it :D

Well it's a sponge cake and it wouldn't have kept til Christmas. Plus my mum and dad have just come back from Spain for Christmas so we shared it.

  • I'm glad you enjoyed your course, I did cake dec at college and never looked back, I've yet to complete my third year with work placement and actual bakery tutoring as well as advanced techniques. I have basic and intermediate ncfe qualifications and highly recommend night school at your local college. If you are on benefits or low income you get the fees waived and help towards your equipment, I had to pay £10 towards registration and £2 for my nus card. Go for it, I think you have real ability and remember this can turn into a really successful and well paid career. I have seen cakes like yours sell for lots of money, there's a shop in Liverpool (where I live) that sell wedding cakes with similiar style figures (not christmas, obviously) for hundreds. Good luck and enjoy yourself. Happy Christmas!

Thanks siren for the advice. I really enjoyed the workshop so am definitely going to enroll at night school. I can't believe figures cost that much! That's amazing. I'm on career break at the moment after having children and am due to return to work next September. Maybe I won't have to go back to the day job, fingers crossed.

Thanks for sharing your ideas I hope I can make such beautiful decorations...if I ever get round to making the cake of course!
  • Hi finc, your cakes are lovely and thanks for the advice about making your nut one. I agree with siren and know the shop in liverpool that she is talking about. There is such a market for this type of thing you should really give it a go, especially when you are so enthusiastic and keen.
