Faulty Carpet

Options
Hello All - after some advice
Last week I purchased some on-line carpet and arrangeed (seperately) for an carpet fitter to come and install it. Carpet was fitted the day after delivery.
During installation manufacturing faults in the carpet were identified (pile not cut at all and still in loops, or cut at the wrong lengh; the backing beneath these area is also damaged). These fault lines quite visible and in high traffic areas that will not be covered by furniture. They are about halfway across the width of the carpet and I suspect would go bald quickly due to the backing problem.
These areas only became evident after hoovering all the initial fluff off the carpet. These faults were reported to the supplying company the same day as installation.
The carpet supply company are claiming that since the carpet has been cut for fitting, that they have no legal obligation in respect of my consumer rights and that any right of remedy must come from the manufacturer. They are only prepared to offer £50 as a goodwill gesture (which I have refused) and claiming it will take anything up to a month to reach some kind of position with the manufacturer.
To cover myself against potential future action, I have have sent them a LBA rejecting the carpet and have asked them to come and collect, however I am giving them some time to work this through and see where they go before taking things any further.
Does anyone have any advice here on how my 30 straight rejection rights are tempered by the fact the carpet is trimmed for fitting before the faults were identified? I can't see anything on-line that addresses this situation. I guess I have a view that since the carpet is faulty, the trimming to size is kind of irrelevant, since it's scrap anyway, but I'm also aware that my own bias!
Thanks for any advice that can be offered.
Kind Regards
Diver2

No - only a relatively small amount of wastage. Room was 3.17 long and 3.73m wide, so order 3.4m off 4m roll. So about a 10cm (4 inch) strip taken on all sides, but also a  2m2 removed at one end to fit around wardrobes
    Can ask what you're thinking?

    Thanks for any help!
