Hello
So I have just upgraded to an iPhone 11 from an iPhone 7. As I have done in the past, I planned to recycle my old phone to cover the cost (or most of it at any rate) of the new one. I used the MSE recycle comparison thingy and GiffGaff were offering £115. So I sign up, wipe the old one of data (had EE unlock it several weeks ago) and then sent it off last week.
Had GiffGaff confirm it was received yesterday and was going to be tested. I then later get an email telling me the phone has been flagged by a company called Checkmend as stolen and because of this, they cannot return the phone to me or pay me for it.

Now I have had that phone for 3.5 years, I bought it in a 2 yr EE contract, I have proof of purchase (Carphone Warehouse) and the box it came in. I email Checkmend and they come back to me and say my phone has been registered as blocked by 2 Danish phone companies in July 2017. I have never been to Denmark, or in fact anywhere in Scandinavia. In fact on the date they said the block happened, I was sat in my home in England all day.
Checkmend say GiffGaff have no obligation to return my phone and the only way I can get the block lifted is to get the Danish phone companies to do it, not only can I not find them, oddly enough I don't speak Danish.
Anyone have any ideas what I can do?

Sounds like they have mixed up your phone with someone elses?
Did you write down the imei number before sending it? That could be your proof.1 -
Thanks but I've triple checked the IMEI number and it's definitely correct (I have the original IPhone box and that has the IMEI on), I'm just at a loss0

Chrome can translate for you if you wanted to speak to the 2 Danish phone companies.0

Have you explained the situation to GiffGaff?0

I deal with companies across Europe in my work. You will find that almost everyone in Denmark speaks perfect English so that is not a bar to communicating with them. Indeed, their use of English is typically better than many English people's (no "should of", no mixing up your and you're, or of they're, there and their).

If so, they will be able to tell from their records that you were using the handest last week/month/whenever you did last use it (which presumably was much more recent than July 2017) proving the handset was not blocked at that time.
