McClung - Living off your money.  A fairly difficult read but has some depth to it and he supports what he says with the backtesting and simulation results he used to test it.  Is it the answer - no of course not.

But as a guide to options on mechanics of what to do and and analysis of which options are better or worse than others I have yet to find better.  He is quite good at defining terms but the book is quite jargon rich if you are just starting out on investing topics.   Recommended.

I decided this book sounded interesting, so I ordered it from Amazon yesterday and it arrived today. I like the look of it, and it seems an excellent handbook for someone in my position. Thanks for the recommendation.

FWIW I found this book helpful in finalising my investment strategy. I didn't understand a lot of it but I found the research and backtesting helpful to confirm my investment strategy. Which is doing fine at the moment, I am riding out the downturn quite happily. Sorry if that sounds smug btw.

I bought it on OMG's recommendation.  It's a very useful read and helped us to decide our drawdown strategy. However, he assumes that bonds will behave as they did for the decades prior to the financial crisis. QE has affected the way that bonds are priced. Corporate bonds (for example) are now behaving more like equities and investment-grade bond yields are increasingly turning negative. Worth bearing in mind when you read the book.
