How To Use Nest In New Home

We have just moved into our new house. It's 5 years old and the previous owner has left the nest thermostat and 2 smoker detectors. Now it appears to be connected up to the boiler as when we change the temp the boiler kicks in. My question is how to get make it work over the network? So we can control it remotely from the app?
I only ask as we had a hive in the last house and you had to take the actual bridge with you so if someone else wanted to use the hive via the app they needed to pay, for the box that connected to your router.
Is this the case with nest?

You can connect the Nest thermostat to your wifi from the thermostat menu itself, you'll need the app for the Nest protects tho.0

You will need to factory reset the nest controller itself (as the device is probably still connected to the old owners Google account). First off you'll need a Google/nest account and you will also need to know where the wired receiver for the boiler is as you may need to re-link (usually next to the boiler). When you factory reset the thermostat it should guide you through step-by-step in the screen - one of the first things it will ask you to do is select the WiFi network and password (all input via the nest thermostat screen).
You may also need to reset the detectors as these again will likely be linked to the old owners Google/nest account0
