BA and Ryanair cancel flights due to coronavirus

"British Airways and Ryanair have cancelled hundreds of flights
between the UK and parts of Europe and the US due to the coronavirus
outbreak. The BA cancellations include journeys between Heathrow
and Italy, France, Austria, Belgium, Germany, Ireland and Switzerland -
plus New York's JFK
Seems its due to people cancelling and low demand for flights more than anything. I booked a trip for June flying to JFK. Trip last year was cancelled due to Thomas Cook going under, and now a virus might effect my plans. If my flight was cancelled i assume i can get a full refund for the whole package holiday through TUI (who i booked with) or ATOL?

I guess it depends on whether you booked it as a package? We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Yes it was all booked as a package, all flights with BA

A lot of the drop off in demand will be coming from the business market as many companies are banning international travel. Take all of the corporate customers off a flight to JFK and it isn't worth running the service. It is also noticeable that many of the BA cancellations are from London City which is primarily a business destination airport.0

June is obviously a while off yet and things will change, but ultimately you have booked a package holiday with TUI so you are about as well protected financially as you can be.
I very much doubt your trip to New York flying with BA will be cancelled. BA may possibly change you on to another flight but that likely all. BA and AA have between them flights from LHR to New York running almost hourly, at times ever 30 minutes. With business travel to New York possibly decreasing it makes economic sense to prune a few flights out from the schedule as passenger impact would be very minimal.0 -
Trouble is they're only cancelling/amending flights 2 week ahead of schedule. By that time i have advance train tickets (im travelling from Leeds to London) etc all booked and i may need to amend those which could cost me.
Also partly why we paid a little more for this holiday is because the flight out of Heathrow is the first of the day so gives us maximum time in NYC. So be annoyed if that gets effected
But yea few months off yet so nothing we can do0 -
With flights so frequent to JFK hopefully it would not necessitate too much waiting around or changing of other plans.
Every chance no change at all.
Lots of turmoil at the moment in travel. I think we just have to make the most of it (this morning told my upcoming Singapore Airlines flight SIN PER cancelled, nothing else on same day, now having to fly 24hrs earlier) It is what it is.0
