Possible Change from Self Employment to Employed

One of my clients are considering making a job offer.

If I were to accept this, and after filing the last return as self employed, I'm not sure if it is worth staying on self assessment & completing future returns with a zero income.

Although I'm not likely to have any self employed income, it would provide the opportunity for this. It would also be easier to start back up as self employed in the future.

But I don't want to create a head ache for my potential employer, or for me!

Does anyone have any advice on the best way forward & pros/cons of each?

Thanks

why do you think it will impact your employer if you have to do Self Assessment. It won't

you can ask HMRC to be removed from SA on the basis your SE ended. They may accept or refuse to do so.
If they do remove you, to start up again is trivial so i fail to see your concern.

    Thank you.
I would hope it wouldn't impact the employer, but have heard of tax codes being wrong etc in the past.
Assuming that I would retain access to the self assessment site, it probably does make sense to be removed & no longer have to complete a return.

Have you checked your terms and conditions of employment to see if you can do any work for other people while you are employed?  They might rule it out altogether.  If they do not rule it out, then I would still keep your employer informed of any moonlighting work you do when you are employed by them.

With regards to HMRC.  As long as you pay any taxes on self-employment work, you should not have a problem.
