Renewing Annual travel insurance

I've booked a cruise for the middle of August. My annual travel insurance runs out mid July, and I have a couple of holidays coming up before the cruise, which this will cover. I'm trying to arrange a new annual travel insurance, but obviously I don't want it to overlap the other one. Some of the comparison websites are saying that if I take out the insurance with a forward date, if anything happens before the date of the new cover, I wont be insured. Actually, some don't even give you dates forward of April! My question is, will I be covered on my existing insurance for a holiday that is taking place after the cover expires. Complicated!!

I have one car policy which will finish in april-2020 I will get three years of NCD.
And second will end in June 2020 will give me one NCD.
Can I add 3+1 in my next policy in June 2020

If you take out a new policy with a start date in the future, that policy will not provide cover for any issues prior to that date. That is not a problem for the OP as they currently have insurance until mid July. Many insurers will allow you to specify a date in the future, but possibly 4 1/2 months in advance. I would advise checking in late June to ensure continuity of cover.

The fact that it's a cruise didn't raise any flags with me initially, but standard travel insurance generally doesn't cover cruises. If your current insurance doesn't have cruise cover you may be able to add it to your current policy. If you can't I would take out a new policy now otherwise you won't have any protection if you need to cancel.

The cruise cover option is for things like getting medical evacuation from a ship at sea. I would have expected that the cancellation cover would not be an issue, but that's the sort of technicality that can trip you up. You would need to get your insurer to confirm that you would be adequately covered before committing to that route.
