Section 75/holiday insurance

Hey, we had to cancel our holiday due to illness and claimed on our holiday insurance. The holiday insurance paid out but deducted excess and refused to pay out for the air passenger duty. So all in all out of pocket approx. £500. They said we needed to claim the apd from the flight company...which was Thomas Cook so that's not gonna happen. We paid initial deposit for holiday on HSBC credit card. My question is could we do a section 75 to claim for the apd and has anyone successfully claimed the insurance excess back too this way? Thanks

If you cancelled due to illness then No. S75 does not cover for YOU cancelling anything.
Only fly in the ointment here is T Cook... So I would have a word with HSBC to see if they do cover the Airport duty.
