LG warranty admission problem

HI all, I have an issue with LG over a failed PC monitor. I purchased a new monitor through ebay in December. Brand new, in original box sealed etc etc. It has failed. LG admit it is in warranty period - which they say is 24 months. It even has manufacture date of 04/19 on the nameplate on the rear. I have sent them the necessary details, but they are insisting on a copy of VAT receipt. The seller is obviously not VAT registered so that is not possible. I have the paypal receipt to show proof of purchase, date etc. LG are saying that without the VAT number they will reject the claim. What I do not understand is what the hell has a VAT number got to do with it. That is tax, the warranty issue has nothing whatsoever to do with tax. Are they just being awkward and trying to squirm out of it or do they have a legal right to demand this ?? I cannot believe this stands up, although I am open to be corrected. A shame really as all my kit is LG and has been very good and reliable over the years. If they wont honour this then it will be the last time I ever buy LG. Thanks for any advice.

First things first, is the warranty transferable? I take it you're not the original purchaser, therefore it's the original owner that holds any warranty rights, assuming they registered the product if that's what LG requires. If the warranty wasn't transferred to you (and if transfer is allowed) then you have no warranty rights.
I don't think they're trying to squirm out of anything. They're trying to establish if you hold the warranty. It looks to me as if you might not. Is the person you bought from a registered retailer of LG products, or just an eBayer who could have got the TV off the back of a lorry?
I doubt LG browse these forums, so your rather silly overreacting threat is probably wasted.3 -

You should be contacting the retailer you bought it from first as it’s only 3 months old and your rights under CRA 2015 is with them
