You do know that "solid" walls are not necessarily solid all the way through? We had solid walls in our last house and they actually had a tiny gap between the bricks. Most people do not actually know that level of detail so expecting to renegotiate will probably flag you up as a buyer with unrealistic expectations
  • Some really insightful and constructive advice.  Thank you everyone for your honesty.

We are complete novices at building construction but what I couldn't understand was why the EPC was stating it would cost £14k to insulate the walls and a quick google search shows Cavity wall insulation is about £1k.
The EPC is a tick-box exercise carried out by somebody who may well also be being paid to take the photos and measure the rooms. Or may just be doing the EPC, probably to the lowest price.

The numbers that are generated may or may not bear the slightest resemblance to reality.

You probably had had what some people call a 'Finger cavity', which is a solid wall built in Stretcher bond. The cavity is known as the Wall joint, and should really be filled with mortar to make the wall solid, but most bricklayers don't do this as it tends to make the brickwork belly out a bit if you are not careful.

Can't you just ask the vendor what their energy bills are?  I think that might be more helpful than worrying about the construction of the walls. As others have mentioned no point spending thousands to save £10 a month
