Travel Insurance Help - Event Cancellation Cover

Hi folks, I'd be very grateful of some help if anyone could provide it.

We are looking at going to the States (from the UK) for a sporting event in April. However, while we're not particularly concerned about the Coronavirus, with other events currently being cancelled around the globe, we feel like it would be foolish to go out there without insurance cover that provides for this and perhaps cancellation of the whole reason we're going out there in the first place.

Is there such a thing as travel insurance which provides cover for something like "frustration of purpose"? We would really only be going to the town in question to watch this one particular sporting event and perhaps also to gather in the streets to watch it on a big screen - an occasion which, in the worst-case scenarios may also be disallowed. Were we to book this expensive trip and then all that to be called off, we'd really be in bother.

As I say, any help would be really gratefully received.
Many thanks in advance,
A.

Just to clarify.  You are travelling to the USA purely to watch a specific sporting event on a big screen, and for no other reason?  If that is the case you need to speak to a broker to see if you can get insurance for that, although I suspect that will be difficult in the current uncertain climate.

Hi Tellit, thanks for your response.

No, we're going to watch the NHL playoffs in Pittsburgh, hopefully in person, but tickets are not available yet and will not be until much nearer the time. We fully intend to secure tickets though, after we book travel and accommodation, but before we depart.

Regardless of whether or not we get tickets, there will be multiple games played whilst we are there and we would be planning on watching those on the big screen in the streets also. We are concerned that the coronavirus will lead to the games being played behind closed doors with no crowds or cancelled altogether, and the street gatherings being prohibited. If that was to happen, we'd have travelled all the way to Pittsburgh, at some expense, for no reason, and we're looking for insurance to cover such an eventuality.

    Many thanks,
    A.
