Lloyds TSB - is there anything else I can do?

Options
hello,

This is my first post - so please be gentle with me!

I've had a Classic plus account at Lloyds for about 9 month, i have no overdraft facility, have never gone overdrawn on it and pay in my entire salary of over £2000 each month. Last month I set up another Lloyds acc jointly with my partner to use to pay all our joint bills, direct debits etc - again with no OD at all. My partner got his Visa debot through the post a week or so later but mine didn't come so i rang to check and was told that I 'wasn't eligle for one' despite having one on my Classic plus account - so i checked my experian report and my score had gone from fair/good to poor in the last two months, I think part of this may be to do with having just moved house and not yet being on the electoral roll (although I have registered so should be on soon) and also an old HSBC overdraft loan which got defaulted on - without my knowledge and was paid off in full as soon as i was contacted by the credit company - it reads as 'satisfied' on the report.
I went in and spoke to a manger at Lloyds who looked at my report and said that I also had a large number of checks on there around 80 in the past 6 years which may have affected it too. She basically said that two out of the three would have probably been ok but all three mean that it could be between 7 months and a year before i would be allowed a debit card!

She seemed to ahve no scope for any kind of discretion and seemed to say that no bank would give me a debit card and that applying for other account would be detrimental anyway as it would incurr another 'check' on my credit report, she also said that if my current debit card was lost or stolen they would only be allowed to replace it with a cash card!!!! I'm so upset an confused, I've worked so so hard to clear my debts over the past 5 years, I've piad off nealry 40k of debt through hard work and now when i have no outstanding debts Lloyds won't let me access my money!!!

Is there anything else I can do to get a debit card from them, or to make my score better or do I just have to wait?

Thanks so much for reading,

Pip

Seems like you have found the uncaring jobs worth branch manager. It may be he has no authority to give you DD card and I suggest you write a letter headed "cutomer complaint" to LTSB head office.

It may be worth asking for a meeting with branch manager of a.n.other bank(s) with view to switching. Take all your bank statements and credit reports etc. Obviously before you switch you want to make sure they will provide the services you desire.

What does the bank manager mean by two out of three and all three?
