Green Network Energy - wrong metre reading

I switched to GNE a year ago using the MSE Cheap Energy Club. When submitting my closing gas metre reading I mistakenly submitted the wrong reading - a number higher than it actually was.
I realised my mistake when I was asked to submit my metre readings a few months later. I contacted GNE to explain the error and provided supporting photographs of the up to date reading. Despite several phone calls and emails, they have refused to correct my reading.

Today I have received an email from GNE explaining that the dispute has been rejected by my previous supplier, because they have the same closing reading as GNE’s opening reading. This is not surprising - they use the same incorrect reading I submitted when I switched using the MSE Cheap Energy site. So of course they are the same.
I am looking for advice as to how I can rectify this matter. I am over paying on my gas bill, and yet seemingly there is no way to get my reading updated on the system, or a refund for the amounts paid.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend GNE. I made one honest error, and it is causing me a huge amount of stress, not to mention, financial burden. Their customer service has been extremely poor.
Thanks in advance for your help

It'll get sorted out sooner or later, either by your own monthly meter readings or when the meter reader calls. It's not really GNE's fault because the closing / opening reading is validated by a mysterious third party.0
