Equifax update payment details end subscription

I signed up for Equifax free credit report when I was getting a mortgage about a year ago. I naively forgot to cancel the subscription, always meaning to do it, but have been paying monthly ever since.
I recently recieved an email asking me to update my payment details with them, not really sure why because the card hasn't changed. Anyway it prompted me to cancel the subscription. However, the option to cancel online seems to have gone (I tool note of where it was when I first took the free trial).

My question is, if I just don't update the payment details will the subscription just expire, or will i get chased for further payment and it effect my credit report?

There seems to be something a bit worrying about ignoring a credit referencing company's request for payment details. But I dont want to update the payment details to go through the process of cancelling straight away.

Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to the forum  :)

    From Equifax:

You can cancel online by logging into your Equifax account - select the My Accounts tab. Then select the Product Management option on the left.

  • Thanks for the welcome. Yeah I have followed that through but the option to cancel seems to have disappeared, I had seen it previously. Which is why I'm wondering if I just don't update the details the subscription will just get cancelled as a matter of course.

If the online functionality has been removed, then if it were me, I would phone them instead.

You need to cancel your subscription and associated CPA correctly.  Make that call.  :)

It's down to continuous payment authority. Basically your card has probably expired, check the exp date on your card, they'll need the new card details to continue to take the payments. The card number is likely the same but the expiry and CVC (last 3 numbers on the back) will be different. The banks purposely started changing CVC codes ages ago to stop us all continuing to pay these things that we sign up for and then forgot about.

It's not a regulated agreement so Equifax can't report on your file that you haven't paid. Your subscription should just end. But just ring them and cancel it anyway. Then you can't go wrong.

Yes, make that call and make sure whoever you speak to understands that you definately do want to cancel immediately.

Also inform your card issuer it's cancelled - some companies say they've cancelled but still manage to take payment even though they want updated details which customer does not provide.
