School Place Deposit

Options
Hi
Does anyone know - if we pay a deposit for a school place this week, are we legally entitled to claim it back if (within a week) we
select a different school ?
Thanks

  • No idea at all.  You'll need to refer to your terms and conditions. No one here can give specific guidance on such vague information.
  •  Who pays a deposit for a school place? Do you mean a nursery?

Would seem to make the deposit pretty pointless if you can?

The school's terms and conditions will almost certainly explain the terms of the deposit. But it's very unlikely that the terms allow the deposit to be returned, if you change your mind.

    I'm guessing private school.
  • I very much doubt it is a deposit.  It will be an option on a place which will cover the admin involved in setting up the place for the pupil.

It's typically a deposit that private schools require you to pay when you accept the offer of a place for your child. The deposit is not refunded, if you change your mind and your child doesn't take up the place.

Assuming you take up the place, and give the correct notice when your child leaves the school, typically the deposit will be deducted from the final term's fees.
