PC World Selling used item

HI, just after some advice. Earlier today I bought a Logitech G29 steering wheel for my son's PS4. When we opened the box I noticed there were no cable ties on the leads, the bags containing the items were open and the box was a bit tardy. When we took the pedal set out of the box there was a load of dust and what looked like flakes of dead skin around the pedals where the previous owner obviously used it in their bare feet (made me feel physically sick). It was then I realised this item must have been used and returned to the store at some point. I tried Calling PC World / Currys but because I bought it in store, there were no options to talk to anyone and the message asked me to take the item back to the store.
I know that for electronics there is a no quibble returns if an item isn't open, but seeing as there was no way I could see the items inside without opening, should I be prepared to face any issues getting a refund tomorrow? When I was at the store today there was an irate Customer in their who was arguing with the store assistant for refusing not to take his vacuum back and refund him? This kind of got me worried as I am disabled and somewhat vulnerable when it comes to confrontations I can't control. Do I have grounds to be worried or do my Consumer rights protect me from any kind of refusal?
Thanks.

Just get to the store as soon as you can and explain what has happened. They won't argue about replacing or refunding if it's so obviously a previous return you have been sold.1
