Hi.
First post here but have been lurking a over the last few months whilst our sale/purchase has been going through.
We had the dreaded phone call this morning that our sellers have pulled out of our deal, which is a shock and obviously a massive pain. We were ready to exchange on the purchase, just waiting on the last part of our sale (our Help to Buy redemption statement) to be ready. We don't want to lose our sale as our move was across the city back towards our family and work. Our family provide childcare for our 1 year old throughout the week days whilst we work, and he currently travels across the city every morning and evening!
We are going to break the chain and probably move in with family and store everything in various garages and spare bedrooms. Not ideal but we know our house isn't an easy sale and it will take a good while to get it back on the market and sell again. Our buyers are committed and we are very close to exchange so I'm not throwing it away now. We've also paid for all of the management packs and HtB redemption fees. Also are buyers are chain-free FTB's, and they don't deserve to be messed around.
My question is, what happens to everything whilst we are temporarily living with family? I assume we will have to change address on core things like car insurance and driving license that could have legal implications, but what about everything else? What have people done in the past, as this has obviously happened to other people before? We will pay for Royal Mail to redirect our mail. I guess I need to contact Sky with regards to our TV package as that is within the minimum term. Everything else like our phone and internet are rolling contracts that I can just cancel.
If anyone has anything useful to point out relating to this situation, please do so!
Thanks!
Edit: We were a chain of three with us in the middle. No more links above or below.

Changing address while an inconvenience isn't going to pose you any other challenges. You've a perfectly good explanation.
Being unencumbered purchasers makes you attractive to future vendors. As there's nothing hindering you. No property to sell, rental contract to terminate.
At least happening now. You can catch the spring tide. When new property listings are a regular occurence.
Could always try a service like this.

We are doing this right now, renting so we didn't lose our sale. It's a bit of a pain having to store stuff and change address twice but not as big a pain that having to start selling our house again."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair2

I have said to my wife that if it was ever going to happen, now is the best time. Hoping something comes up during the spring rush. Also thanks for that link, I've not seen that site before.Thrugelmir said:Changing address while an inconvenience isn't going to pose you any other challenges. You've a perfectly good explanation.

Exactly our point. I'd rather take the inconvenience and get the sale over the line, than lose the legal fees on both sides and be in the same position we were before this started in December! Good luck!pimento said:We are doing this right now, renting so we didn't lose our sale. As it is, it worked out well. We had to sign a six month agreement and we completed on our purchase with three months left. It has meant that we are able to decorate and lay new flooring in the new place while it's empty."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0
