Need to borrow £5,000

Hi,

I'm new to all this. Ive just bought my first house. Ive never borrow any money etc. Just my student loan.

However i have money saved up to renovate my new house, bathroom, kitchen etc.

However i need to get the windows replaced asap for dbl glazed ones. This will cost just under £5k.

So id like to get some sort of loan for this amount. Obviously i'd like to do it the cheapest way. Ive got no credit cards etc. But would be willing to try anyway possible. Whats the best way to do this?

Apply for a loan or credit card, take your pick there are many lenders.

A CC with 0% for purchases might be a good idea.
Use a credit card eligibility checker for that, I take it you have changed your address with the bank and on the ER ?

does the window company accept credit cards?
Double glazing would count as a want rather than a need - can you not save and do one window at a time once you have the money?

If the windows are that bad that they need doing immediately, then you need to re=allocate some of the money you have saved for other projects and direct it to the windows.  The other projects can then be delayed while you save up again.

You may find that the window company offers credit at low or even 0% rates. That's what I did about 6 years ago.
  • I suspect it might have been wise to build this into your mortgage as a result of feedback from your survey. If the surveyor didn't raise this as an issue then it might be worth following MEM62's advice.

Also, £5k to replace all the windows [and doors] seem pretty light these days. Are you absolutely sure it's £5k?

I've just signed up to get some replacement windows and a door - they were falling over themselves to offer me an interest free  credit payment option. Talk to the providers and you might find they can help.
