I left some clothing in a play centre and telephoned within the hour and they said item was handed in and described it to me. I gave my name and said I would return on my day off to collect it.  When I went today they remembered accepting the clothing and putting them in a bag for.me to collect but the items are now missing. Who is responsible...... me for leaving the item or.do they accept responsibility when they accepted to hold the items for me. Thanks

  • Unfortunate, but I can't see how they can be held responsible for a problem instigated by you.  It might be something you just have to write off if they don't make some sort of gesture.  What sort of value is attached to the clothing?

Involuntary bailee would give them liability, but OP might need to prove they were negligent in their care of the item.

However given the circumstances, perhaps most likely to be kids clothing that was left by mistake - which is likely to be cheap enough (given it would be second hand used value) that it wouldn't be worth even arguing the point.
