Energy changes = increase in bill!

We received a letter today informing us that the electricity was going to cost less BUT the standing charge was going to increase this they estimated was going to increase our overall bill! Now I am not a financial whizz but if you lower standard charge and higher usage at least you have the option of using less but if the standing charge is higher you have no choice yes you can still use less and pay less but it will have less impact than before.
Is it just us that the new changes will work against?

This may be good news - how long is it since you switched suppliers. Perhaps this will prompt you to have a look. Just factor in any switching penalty.

Who is the supplier - what tariff ?

Have you done your own sums - ?

Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

It looks like your current deal has now run out and they are putting you on their next "best" deal?
If so simply go the comparison site route, input actual usage per year, not in pounds and switch to a deal that suits you.

Avro has a tariff now that has quite a low standing charge, for me at least, at 14.7p per day, (13.703p per Kwh). There must be others out there with similar low standing charge deals.

Surely it's not that difficult to multiply your annual usage (in kWh from actual meter readings) by the cost per kWh, multiply the daily standing charge by 365 (or 366), add the results together and add on VAT at 5% (if not already included)?

As someone who is training to teach maths in the FE sector, some people do struggle.  In one of my Function Skills Level 1 maths classes, we have just finished covering percentages.
