A bit fed up with nuisance calls
I realise i could buy a new phone with a call blocking facility but does anyone use a "stand alone call blocker" if so is it any good. Also my phone is quite old so not sure if it is a DECT phone ( so unsure which call blockers are compatible)
thanks

Stand alone unit swapped for BT 8500 call blocker phones .

BT customers can dial 1572 after receiving a nuisance call to block the phone number.1

For the price of a stand alone blocker you could get a BT call blocker phone (£40 or so).

For the best protection, get either
- a plug-in trueCall unit
- a phone with trueCall built in (such as BT8500 or 8600 series)
- or change to a provider that has trueCall features built directly in to the telephone network (Sky - SkyShield, or TalkTalk - CallSafe)

We have SkyTalk with SkyShield. Free with the package and completely eliminated the scam calls we were being plagued with.1

We've got BT8500 dual handset .. I can count on the fingers of 1 hand the number of spam calls we've had in the past 4+ years. (8500 is no longer available - it's the 8600 now).1

Any device which requires the caller to press a button before he gets put through will do the job. No automated call will do that and cold callers won't do either.I got 2-3 cold calls a day when I moved into my current flat years ago. After setting up a FreePBX server with an IVR saying "press 1 to speak somebody ..." no cold calls came through anymore. I still could see the calls in my call log, but everyone hung up. The calls got less and lesser and now there are only a few each month in my call log.1

Yep, second that. We've had the 8500 since it first came out. Not one spam caller has bothered to get through.1
