Can't find the will

  • Update and can I say thank you for your responses.
I found a site last night called Certainty which is a site to locate all registered wills. I chose the most expensive option just to cover all bases but the cheaper ones still put a notice on some solicitor noticeboard so that if a solicitors had been bought out the new one could locate the will. Typically about half an hour after I did that I found a letter confirming where the will was being kept by the original solicitors. I knew I should have waited...
Anyway we phoned this morning and they have it so we are going to collect it.
Thank you for your responses. It's been an unbelievably sad and stressful time and it's not even over. I will probably put up a new question once we have the will because my Dad appointed an Executor who we haven't seen for 20 odd years and he lives the other end of the country we think so there is all that to sort next

He'll likely be more than willing to 'renounce', then you can do it instead. Estate doesn't sound complex so cheaper & more to the point, faster than a solicitor.

    My condolences.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.
