Hsbc Premier account experiences, Outdated way of banking.

Nightmare Bank to deal with via phone.
The human beings on otherside of the phone working there are Great. HSBC WAY OF BANKING IS OUT OF DATE. RUBBISH.
Recently opened premiere current account and there after opened regular saver.
1) Had to take passport + other ID into branch before account could be opened. Weired as opened Metro savings account online and it was straight forward.
2)Same thing when I opened thier regular saver.  5 days later After i applied a letter sent to me to say go into branch to provide proof of ID. Weird as they should have this saved and can't open regular saver with out a Hsbc current account. (i got told by staff member thier (Hsbc systems) left and right hands don't talk to one another or slow )
3) transfer into Hsbc account is fast. Transfer out is slow as hell!!
Even did a experiment.
From santander to hsbc instant transfer.
From HSBC to santander . A day!!24 hours !!
Nationwide to Santander instant.
Halifax to Santander Instant
Metro Bank to santander Instant
Barclays to santander instant.
So as you can see from my experience HSBC is not a great bank to be with even as a premier account holder thier Way of banking is absolutely OUTDATED/SLOW and lower standards compared to others.

Final straw... Wanted to take large cash out of Premier account so thought I'd call premier team and make sure bank branch can have it ready  NO!   Premier call staff can't call branch but only request it via a memo. Telephone Premier banking can't call local branches. Not a service.they offer !!!!
No way for me to tell if they will get it memo sent via telephone banking staff same day, next day , if or when my money will be ready.
Previous Experience with Santander, Barclays, Nationwide was easy.. Called telephone banking, they called branch  Money confirmed ready and went to collect within 1 hour. So I did exactly that.transfered money to Santander and collected.
Rubbish out of date service from HSBC. Even as a Premier customer.
As a result.. All HSBC accounts closed. Premier account  regular saver, and credit card. They begged me to stay.. I said you are the weakest link .. Goodbye
BETTER alternatives out there with 2020 way of banking not the 1990s way of banking. Feel sorry for the wonderful HSBC staff who have shown frustration over old skool way of banking.
Any one else had any of these weird out of date experiences from HSBC? Or other banks?

  • I get on just fine with it. Easy to get things sorted in branch and the credit card brings in a significant amount of benefits every month.
  • However banks which use branches are inherently less useful to fraudsters. I will keep my HSBC account.
  • Some banks or at least parts of banks are very slow indeed

for example I recently got a Nationwide members credit card and spent something on it on Thursday - the transaction did not appear on my my account until the following Tuesday

I know there was a weekend in the way but say what you like about Tandem at least they were quick!

I'm not sure what the benefit is in transactions appearing quickly on a credit card. Personally I'd prefer the longer time as it means there may be longer to pay if it misses a statement date.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
  • I think it is just down to personal preference really although it is fair to say that if there was an unauthorised transaction on your card you would see it quicker with something like tandem than for example HSBC or nationwide
  • My credit card transactions on HSBC Premier generally post within 1-2 days. It is a shame HSBC don't show pending transactions like most other banks.
