Pot hole claim Highways england

Hey

i hit a pot hole on the a12 this evening which has damaged my vehicle. It’s taken a chunk out of my wheel and tyre - lucky not to have a blow out. Both of this need to be replaced and more than likely tracking done too.

I have reported the pot hole to highways England, and can see from fixmystreet the same pot hole was reported Monday - and evidently not fixed since.

I’ve read the guides but curious how likely I am to have this approved. I need my vehicle and can not afford to buy a new wheel (probably the whole set as these particular ones are not sold individually) and tyre upfront without being reasonably confident I will get it back.

do I have a Hope here? Or am I best off having my cracked wheel repaired and painted myself and sourcing a tyre and not bothering

any help welcomed

I don't know of the legalities here, but you're posting on Tuesday evening at 9.50pm about a pothole you hit at midnight on Monday night / Tuesday morning, and mention that you can see someone else reported it sometime earlier on that same Monday and it hasn't been fixed? I think it would have been a miracle if it had been fixed on the same day. Or did you mean it was reported on the previous Monday?

As for a claim, that will take time, and if you need the vehicle in the meantime, you're going to have to get a replacement wheel and tyre or use the spare and get something else for your spare. Can't you get a second-hand wheel and have a tyre put on it? That would keep the price down a bit. I think I'd prefer that to having a cracked wheel repaired, and when I had a cracked alloy, it was actually cheaper to get a second hand wheel.

Plenty of information on how to claim on this site, and it's up to you if you think it's worth it.
