Too much cash in the house problem.

Do you have a face to face relationship with anyone at the bank? Someone that you know by name? Could you take a wander in (maybe when we are in better times) and have a chat with them, outlining your fears, and see what they say? I'd be very honest and up-front - you certainly wouldn't be the first household to end up with a few thousand pounds under the floorboards. You did mention that over the years you withdrew money - but put the leftovers in the pile - were they regular withdrawals? You could point the bank to these - and then say that your mum didn't spend it, but kept on asking for the withdrawals, and is now sadly in a place where she can't respond of her own accord, but you need to ensure the money is in a safer place. I do think in this case- being straightforward and honest will be the best approach to solving the problem.0

My bank has the option to deposit money out of hours. You could deposit a smaller amount (e.g. a few hundred) several times over a month or two without any issues."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

How about taking out a couple of funeral plans - that would get rid of a few thousand. Pay the FD in cash.Mortgage free since 2010 - in my 30s
