3 year old bill

My wife received a bill for a car repair which was done 3 years ago.

At the time she had a company lease car, she caused a little damage to the rear and called the lease company who took it away to fix. This was August 2017.

She thinks she paid any money owed at the time but isn’t 100% sure.

one year ago the car went back July 2019, then last week she got the bill, £250 for the repair.

Not sure if she should pay, ignore or contest.  Any suggestions welcomed please?

If she's not sure then we are sure she hadn't paid it.

Legally, they have up to 6 years to claim (5 in Scotland).
Have you got bank/credit card statements going back 3 years?  If so, have a rummage through them.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Sounds like this is a bill that's been raised on the car's return, so it's only 6mo after the fact. No great surprise that it's taken that long to be raised, go to the leaser (her employer), then be reissued with her details.
