Just sorting out my study and was just about to shred some old bank accounts and happen to notice the word TESSA. I quickly picked it up and found letters dated 1996 from Abbey national advising that the Tessa I took out in 1993 in my wife's name and one in my name advising that each were worth over £7500. I had forgot about these as I have spent the past 35 years travelling around the world with the Army moving every 2 or 3 years. Further more I found another savings account {SAYE} worth £800. How stupid of me. How ever considering the age of these accounts and that Abbey is now Santander my current account holder can I still cash these in vie Santander. Note: I have a letter from my Abbey branch manager advising in 1994 that my accounts were safe and everything will be held by Santander.  Help

Suggest you contact Santander , with the account numbers and the last known address they had for you.

You should be fine. A few years back I realised I'd had money in Abbey National I hadn't accessed for years, due to being ill over a prolonged perion. One of these was a PEP, which superceded the Tessa accounts. I'd changed addresses too. I went into my local branch with the details of the accounts i'd held & it turned out my accounts had been considered dormant due to no access or contact from me for so long & Abbey had of course by then been known as Santander for some time.  I eventually arranged for the PEP to be transferred to a S&S isa held elsewhere, withdrew the cash & closed the accounts compeletly.

The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
