Tyre tred

In October we got 2 new front tyres.
We just had a service done and they claim the tred is now 6mm, 4 months in 2mm down? Im not 100% sure but do think this sudden 8-6mm tred drop has happened before..? Are they over wearing? If not then why do 8-6mm drop happen so fast over 6-2mm?
I also noticed with these new tires we have had done they have put the tred down as 6mm? not sure why this is considering they are brand new?
Too add again, our drive is at a corner so you have to turn a full 180 from the small side road to mount up it, kerb is dipped etc, but drivers side always mounts the drive before the passanger side.. will this cause excess wear or am i over thinking? obviously this is usually done at a pretty slow speed.
Also, how many miles can i expect out of each set of tyres? i know it generally depends but typically what is under performing?

When was your tracking & alignment last checked? If that is out, it will cause excessive tyre wear.0

we seem to be always having the allignment done. We just had under arm bushings replaced and allignment done again then, I was looking back at past records.. for some reason the rate it goes 8-6mm is quite drastic compared to 6mm-2mm, it seems to initial wear is a lot more then what it is past 6mm? We just had 2 new back tyres and they have put the tred on those at 6mm.. bit confused there since they are supposidly brand new?

Where was this service done and where is the continual realignment being done? Doesn't begin with a K, does it?1

Did they actually measure them? If they look new with a bit of wear they might put down an arbitrary 6mm figure as it's still well in excess of the legal minimum.0

losing 2mm in four months does not seem unreasonable unless your mileage is quite low? How many miles have you done since the service?
Also, I'm assuming you did not measure the tread when you bought the tyres in october, in which case you don't know how much they have gone down.
Personally i tend to get around 8000 miles out of set of tyres, but ymmv.0 -

Its sounds like the garage is telling you these things and you are just taking their word. I have a digital gauge. in my experience some tyre fitters will tell you a pack of lies to earn a little more in bonus.

How do you know they were 8mm when new?We have had two new Dunlop tyres recently due to punctures and they were barely 7mm. I measured because I wondered if 8mm was accurate.0

re the massive long URL in earlier post
Just for future reference any such link can be truncated after the 1st question mark and will still work fine
i.e
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tyre-Tread-Depth-Measuring-Gauge-Guage-Tool-for-Car-Van-Truck-Scooter-Motorb-UK/362820330145
Will no one think of all the wasted bytes !
EDIT
Having said that, even though I only entered /stored the truncated text in my post - I see by hovering over the link I get a massive URL showing
But copying my post into notepad only shows the short url - so look like forum is adding a lot of *rap ?
Sorry to have gone off topic !3
