Actually while at it, any recommendations on what apps to avoid or if they ok to download? Alot apps ask for permissions ( it concerns me that it says access to ABC and it may delete or alter something. E.g on store you pick a app when look at giving access it has list - telephone (  directly call phone numbers or. Storage(  modify or delete my shared storage?  Read content of my shared storage?  
Else am mis understanding

You decide what  permissions you are happy with .

May need a bit of stop and think  .

Phone app permissions to view contacts yes etc.

Maps may want to read your contacts for mapping and write to storage  card for maps .

Video player   read contacts  why ???

For most apps it's obvious what permissions they  need and to be fair, these days, most of the good ones only access what they need to.
You can check each apps permissions and if you think that the app doesn't need a particular permission to function, turn that permission off. If it ceases to function correctly, you know it's needed. If you are really worried only use apps with a decent score in the app store, that's usually a good indication. Or search google for any information on a given app before you download it.
Try not to overthink it and ruin your enjoyment.
