Debt sent to agency, will it effect credit score?

I sold my car almost a year ago to a garage who came and collected it from my house. I was paying road tax monthly on this vehicle and it was near the end of the yearly payment anyway.
a month or so went past and I received a letter from LCS informing me of a fine from the DVLA. I looked up online and I read that there was quite a few fraudulent cases involving the DVLA, someone posing to be the agency and demanding money for fines etc.
i sent a letter back to LCS and requested evidence and reason of the fine and that I would not be paying the fee until substantial evidence has been provided. I didn’t hear a response back but a few months later I was informed by LCS through letter that they still haven’t heard back from me.
In the post today I have received a letter from Advantis informing me of the same issue with the DVLA and that they want me to contact them to discuss the matter. I emailed them and asked them once again, to prove to me this fine is legitimate as I never received any communication from the DVLA for any issue or fine they had.

I checked my credit score and it says it has dropped 72 points, would this be because of the issue being sent to a debt collection agency? And also, how could I go about knocking my score back up. Thank you

Your credit score isn't a real thing. Ignore it and don't try to knock in at direction.
Your risk level hasn't changed just because the debt has changed ownership. It would only make a difference if it previously wasn't reported and now is, as that's an addition of a negative piece of data.
,keep an eye on your three credit files to ensure the information is correct.0 -
It is all dependent on credit, have you taken out any credit cards./loans/credit agreements etc. Score doesn't mean anything to lenders as they don't see it. It all depends on whats on your files, have you checked these are all correct? It may be because you have not paid the fine, and will be classed as defaulted.0

There is no credit being offered so it shouldn't even be reported to the CRAs. And if it was, who owns the debt is irrelevant.
