Log cabin build regulations

Hi , I'm new to this so not sure if I'm in the right place.
I have sick elderly parents that can no longer live by themselves. We have had the idea of using what money we have to build a log home in our garden.(we have a larger than average garden) would I be able to do this for them ? Who do I need to go through ? Would they be able to live in it? Many thanks

Not really an insurance reclaiming question, although you'll probably need some insurance once it's built.
