Seems daft to me.How could TUI legislate for the weather which initiated the crew flight time issue ?Incoming flights would also be cancelled, so how could a replacement flight crew be brought in ?The scenario after the plane landed at Gatwick is obviously within their control of course.0

The delay could have been for any reason, a 4 hour delay is not an exceptional event and is definitely something an airline should be able to foresee and cope with!0 -
If they delay is outwith TUI's control how can they forsee it ?

The story appeared in the press, it was allegedly a technical fault and therefore to avoid further bad publicity, such as did TUI need the plane in Gatwick rather than Edinburgh, they offered after contact from the press the full 400 Euros per passenger0

I see your point, but it is the same when an airplane develops a technical problem and goes out of service. You can say that there should be a spare aircraft at a base station, but clearly an airline can't have a spare plane lying around at every airport they use, yet if a plane is develops a fault and a service is delayed or cancelled, the customers are entitled to EU compensation whichever airport is involved.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Because it’s a pretty common occurrence.0 -

Because it’s a pretty common occurrence.Depends on the definition of "common occurrence" I suppose.According to 2018 online stats around 8% of TUI flights were delayed (most recent I could find) although it doesn't expand on the length of individual occurrences.Seems unrealistic IMO to expect an airline to maintain at least one spare plane and/or flight crew in each and every airport it services based on a 1 in 12 chance of an extended delay.Maintaining that level of instant readiness would have a big effect on ticket prices.

Wow you seem to have a bit of a bee in your bonnet about newbees asking questions they probably do not know the answer to? You mention it twice in this threat alone.bradders1983 said:Oh and before some newby asks - no you arent getting any EU compo for it either.
Anyway, Jet2 did well by the sounds of it. For anything else, let people just ask questions if they are searching for answers. You might have questions one day that you do not know the answer to and need help from others.0 -
Wow, thats some bump.
No, I just don't like people demanding compo and silly refunds for anything and everything.
A few months ago we had someone on here demanding a full refund from Thomas Cook going bust AFTER he got a free rescue flight back home on the exact same day he was due to fly back. Absurd.0
