I was driving my husbands car (have my own policy but also a named driver on his), someone hit me, was a non fault claim on our side as other party admitted full liability. his insurance is now due for renewal. do i need to add this 1 accident to both our claims sections? for him because it is his policy and for me because i was driving?

  • If I recall, the question is something like: "Has this driver had any accidents or claims in the last x years?" So whenever either policy is renewed, you add the accident to your driving record.  You'll be a named driver with an accident on your record on his insurance, and the primary driver with an accident on your record on your own.  You don't attach your accident to him as a driver.  It's attached to you.

The only potential effect on your husband will be a loss of non claim bonus but since it is not at fault, you should be ok. But note some insurers may count it as at fault until it is settled by the third party. So declare whatever is on your NCD certificate issued by the last insurer.

    Yes, absolutely that.

    You were driving.
    His policy was affected.
    Declare both.

Golden rule: If unsure, declare. If they didn't need to know, it won't affect the premium. If they did, it's far better out now then emerging later...
