  • HL recently did away with lots of their charges. I think, but am not sure, that they did away the charge for automatically reinvesting dividends. It's never been an issue for me as most of my holdings are ACC. I also had automatic reinvesting turned off so that when my two INC funds pay dividends (3 times a year in total) I just go in to my account and decide where I want them invested. This helps with rebalancing.

I see that the OP is getting a very early, and very dramatic, reminder that investments can go down as well as up! I haven't checked my own portfolio, which is all index trackers, but based on the percentage reductions to the indices I must be down £50k or more. Ouch!
I certainly won't be bailing though, more likely to be adding more.

You don't get live streaming prices for OEICs. They're priced once per working day.

You did read the KIID before buying, didn't you?
Thanks after some reading late last week I checked I had turned on Live Streaming.
That's fine if prices are updated once per day, I only intend to check every few months.

Which makes me think, how does anyone recognise an Exit Point.

    @Vortigern
Similar to this part, or is this off no relevance to daily Unit price, thanks
Each fund has a daily ‘valuation point’, normally at 12 noon. At this time the manager works out the value per unit of the fund’s investments. This is the price at which units are bought and sold.

Which makes me think, how does anyone recognise an Exit Point.
An exit point can be easily recognised - it is the point several years ahead of when you'll need the money you have invested. If that point happens to coincide with a market crash, you will then have a few years you can hang on for the recovery.

I'm initially intending to run fund with mortgage term 15yrs approx.
Is it only Market crashes to consider, or do funds crash for any other reason.

Google (or search MSE) for Neil Woodford!

I got burned by that with £10k invested at the start but fortunately it was only a small percentage of my portfolio. I was mainly in index trackers but have since moved everything into index trackers so I no longer have to worry about fund managers screwing things up. Just the market to worry about now. Except I don't worry about it.

Thanks I had referred in an earlier thread that Neil.W was known from viewing Sky News+Ian.K Live.
Nice you've learned from unexpected losses.
My initial fund is at the mercy of HL Fund Managers though only 12 months initially with a view of 15 years.
Rather than searching Neil.W, maybe I could check Index Trackers, though I'm very early days into Initial Fund.

This is probably a good place to start regarding index tracker funds...

I'm not yet allowed to paste links so the above is incomplete but Googling Monevator passive investing guide will probably find it.
