I’m currently in a three bed home, but would like to do a mutual exchange, my current landlord has said since moving in my circumstances have changed I am now only entitled to a two bed, is this with every council or HA?

Do live alone? Or with howmany other adults/children?But I suspect all councils will allocate housing appropriate to the number of occupants, which seems only right and fair given the housing shortage.2

Yes it's all housing associations. They won't let you have more bedrooms than you need. There's a housing crisis!4

A friend of mine was living in a 2 bedroom house (private landlord) with rent paid by Housing Benefit. The Council eventually got round to his circumstances and decreed that they would reduce his Benefit to that for a 1 bedroom property and make him pay the difference, which would have caused him great difficulty. He ended up in a 1 bedroom Housing Association little house. Makes sense, really.

Many used to accept like for like regardless but things exchange.

If you have no requirement for a 3 bed house then you are unlikely to get another one.0
