According to Moneyfacts, Melton Building Society are launching a new account, called Regular Saver 4, paying 5.50%

This may be of interest to savers who live or work near to one of their branches or existing Melton BS members.

    • Pay in up to £150 per month
    • The maximum account balance is £4,500
    • The account matures on 19/11/2025
    • The account is available to open via branch only
    • It looks as though they do allow some withdrawals (further details will be on the Melton website once the product details are uploaded).

Melton BS Regular Saver page is here.
    Please call me 'Kazza'.

I had my regular monthly SO from Santander to Coventry BS paid unexpectedly today, Sunday 17th. It was also credited at CBS today.

Whilst the date of the SO is correct, something v. strange is going on, as normally Santander do not process SOs at weekends. I don't know whether this was a freak one-off or whether they are now processing SOs on non-banking days.
I've noticed this recently, too. Also, NatWest — who have always honoured Direct Debits regardless of whether or not I have funds to cover them (I usually credit the account to cover them when I get the alert (same day) that I set up) — have started to not cover the DDs and then charge me for a 'return unpaid' payment.
Are you sure you definitely covered the amount by the correct time? Never had that problem with NW but did have it with Virgin Money and a standing order (which I don’t remember receiving a notification for but can’t go back and check!)
  • This is why I like First Direct.
As long as you fund the account before 23.45pm the same day, no charges are given.
I woke up to find I was 8k overdrawn, ISA funding the the AA screwed up.
FD system looked at my accounts and found I had enough to cover the payment and made it.
Paid money from savings into current account and all was fine.
I funded 5 regular savers today, £700 overdrawn for 60 minutes.
Due to credits from other accounts going in after RS debits.

  • Tipton & Cosley Fixed Rate Regular Saver to 31 October 2024 now 6.2% (branch/post only)
    What are these societies like!

Begin your savings journey with our Fixed Rate Regular Saver
    What is the interest rate?

The fixed rate below applies from 16 September 2023:

    £25 plus – 6.20% gross / AER variable until 31 October 2024.

The interest rate on your account is fixed and won't change before the maturity date.

    And again the usual issue....

Only one Regular Saver account is permitted per customer. This issue or all RS issues ?

There is also an APP version which can be opened.
  • We have been reducing our uncompetitive RS`s. However the new Tipton & Coseley RS @ 6.2% just about gets over the line. Not so good is that no withdrawals or closure are allowed, and that you have to make at least a £25 monthly contribution and you print off an application form and post it. Hopefully being an existing customer means that ID documents are not required. However you can make 14 monthly deposits of £250. Who knows whether 6.2% will be good in the year to come!

There is a difference (may be a typo) in the "no withdrawals" descriptions on the website. The branch version is specific in saying no withdrawals includes closure, the app version does not specifically mention closure.

EDIT : the app has the "no withdrawals, including account closure" clause as part of the description.

Also of note is that as with their previous regular saver if 3 payments are missed the account reverts into an EA account.

Do we know which interest rate they would use to calculate the interest accrued so far when the account reverts to EA (for the period before the reversion)?
