Brand new camera

Options
My husband bought a brand new Canon camera online via the Currys website on 14 November 2019 for our holiday of a lifetime to Singapore, New Zealand and San Francisco starting on 30 December 2019. He tested the camera when it arrived and it zoomed and took photos. When we arrived in Singapore the camera switched on but wouldn’t zoom or take photos, the camera was in his hand luggage and did not get damaged. We contacted Currys and Cannon online who said to return it within 28 days of date of purchase. We told them we were on holiday for 43 days  so we took it to a camera shop in Wellington who confirmed it was faulty but they couldn’t do anything as we had purchased it in Europe. We are now home and Currys have today sent it away for repair, however, I feel we should get a refund as it was not fit for purpose and is no longer required as we have had our holiday of a lifetime. I would appreciate your help please with regards to consumer rights, many thanks

You could have returned it for a full refund, but only if you had done so within 30 days of purchase. As you only discovered the fault outside this window, whilst you were on holiday, then the seller is entitled to repair it if they wish. The choice of repair/ replacement/ refund is entirely up to the seller after the first 30 days.

    Duplicate post.
  • As above. You're not entitled to a full refund I'm afraid, if the retailer wants to have it repaired or replaced.
