The thing is I don't think the gentleman concerned wants to fight this.  It would be very stressful and god knows how he'd pay the legal costs. It might be best to find him somewhere else to live, depending on what he wants to do.
Can he afford to live elsewhere? If he can't he should beware making himself intentionally homeless if he wants council assistance. So his "being nice" by not fighting for his rights might backfire I do not know, but to be on the safe side I second everyone who said speak to Shelter and the local council.

I think the council will just ask for a copy of his S21 if he's been paying rent, which I assume he hasn't been issued with..  How does the rent compare to market value?  Can he afford to move elsewhere with help packing?  I know it will be an enormous challenge, but if he isn't prepared to fight I'm afraid this has to be looked at. He's going to need so much support, but try and look at what housing there is in the locality.  Is there LA housing he could live in?  Are there reasonably priced private rentals suitable for him?  Otherwise he could fight the situation to delay things.  From the sounds of the previous post, it could take years to sort out if he can afford the legal costs.

He does not need to fight this. He should just stay put. In my case, the claimant employed lawyers on a no-win-no-fee basis. As clearly there is potential value in the estate and no provision made in the will, I am sure some lawyers will take this on (I say this from bitter experience!)

Surely  there needs to be some serious research into " it was written down somewhere ".
