  • Hi, thank you Calcotti, yes, you would think that my particular disability  was clean cut (no pun intended) regards the 'biological leg thing'. Sorry to appear so cynical,  but I just don't understand why they don't give you any kind of assurance and ease some of the stress that people go through at times like this.
I suppose they're just doing what is asked of them?
    Cheers!

The assessors don't make the decisions, so they probably prefer not to get drawn into that discussion, even when they think it should be a foregone conclusion.
    It's not difficult!
'Wander' - to walk or move in a leisurely manner.
    'Wonder' - to feel curious.

Indeed, in the guidance it at least strongly advises then not to say anything, if not outright forbids it. Even with absolutely unambiguous situations like this (the mobility descriptor), technically it's the Decision Maker's job to look at your situation and decide, the HCP/assessor's job is only to make the recommendations.

Edit: yep, found it. Paragraph 1.6.47 of the PIP Assessm guide, part 1
"No opinion on entitlement to benefit should be given by the HP.
Claimants who ask should be reminded that it is for the DWP to
    decide entitlement."

The assessor probably didn't want to get drawn in to a discusssion about descriptors. The face-to-face assessment isn't about clarifying how a descriptor is interpreted and so I wouldn't read anything into the fact the assessor was non-committal. In your case you will score 12 points as you meet descriptor 12 (f), listed below.

The assessor has a choice of descriptors while completing the consulation report form (form PA4) and in your case there is only one appropriate descriptor on the form for "Moving Around" that the assessor can choose. The descriptor simply reads (worded exactly the same as I posted above):
12 (f) Cannot, either aided or unaided –
    i. stand; or
ii. move more than 1 metre.
The only thing that isn't listed on the PA4 form is the points that each descriptor scores.

  • PIP Decision - Follow Up.
I can now confirm that I was successful with my claim for PIP.

I recieved the 'brown envelope' in this mornings post, exactly 8-weeks from my Home Assessment visit.

    My award has remained the same (as my DLA awarded to me many years ago) to which I am most grateful;

    Standard Rate Daily Living.
    Enhanced Rate Mobility.

But, although my claim may have seemed straight forward they certainly make you sweat for it!

However, doubtless to say, I'm so glad that this saga is now behind us, because as we all know at this present time the world is in turmoil regards to this dreadful virus - so I would like to say a big 'Thank You' to all of you who chipped in on this link to reassure me with your prompt, informative and helpful support, I am so grateful.

May I also wish you all a safe passage through this truly harrowing time.

    Keep safe, and thanks again!
