Mature student with paid job, leaving job and looking for student finance - query

Hello, I'm in my late 40s and hoping to retrain into a different career/specialism. I'm intending to leave a paid job and go to Uni full time. I'm looking at the student finance calculator and, when I include my old salary, I'm getting very little maintenance loan because of my previous income. With this proposed loan I wouldn't be able to afford to go to Uni. Am I using the student finance calculator incorrectly, should I be inputting my future salary (i.e. zero) rather than my old one? Has anyone had this same situation or can anyone advise? I'm single and have no dependents. Hope you can help, thanks Rich.

You need to state which country you are in for anyone to advise, but for England I believe that your salary doesn't count but the salary of any spouse or partner living at the same address does.0
